BoJack Horseman Season 5 Out Today

“BoJack Horseman” has recently been announced as returning to Netflix with a new season. I loved this funny yet heart-wrenching show that lights the depression, addiction and superficiality in Hollywood (and truly everywhere).

This may be the saddest animated comedy in TV history, and with each new batch of episodes it delves deeper into its unique brand of anthropomorphic misery: dark, witty, culturally literate — but for its loyal fans, thoroughly enjoyable.

Season 5 comes to Netflix on Friday, Sept. 14. If you’ve forgotten where we left BoJack and his cohorts, this short video should remind you why you loved the show:

PS: Can’t wait to see what happens to Hollyhock, BoJack’s half sister, in this new season.

Season 4 was peppered with flashback scenes from the early life of BoJack’s mother, Beatrice — a melancholy tale of loss, guilt and mental illness. She married BoJack’s dad over her own father’s objections. Young BoJack bore the brunt of the animosity that developed between Beatrice and Butterscotch. Decades later, as the marriage continued to deteriorate, Butterscotch impregnated the family’s maid, Henrietta Platchkey (Majandra Delfino), and Beatrice persuaded her to give up the baby for adoption.

Unbeknown to BoJack, that child turned out to be Hollyhock Manheim-Mannheim-Guerrero-Robinson-Zilberschlag-Hsung-Fonzerelli-McQuack (Aparna Nancherla), who got her extraordinarily long last name from her eight gay, polyamorous, adoptive dads.

Lessons learned from BoJack Horseman
